Pickup from the Port

• When shipping a 20- or 40-foot container filled with goods or cargo, you must inform the Port by sending an Arrival Notice. This will include the shipment details and, most importantly, the date the container is scheduled to arrive.
• Once the container has arrived, the customer or the customer’s customs broker will send a Delivery Order. The Delivery Order will be given to the driver. This documentation will include the Port’s name and the delivery destination’s address. The driver will need this to receive the container from the Port.
  As soon as your container reaches the Port, customs will inspect and release it. Once this happens, your driver will be cleared to load the container onto their trailer. A crane service will be required for loading and unloading a container.
• When a container arrives at the Port, you will have a certain number of Free Days, typically about three, to collect the container before you incur Demurrage Fees from the SteamShip Line (SLL) and/or the Port. Demurrage Fees are charges attached to freight that has overstayed its allotted time at the Port terminal. Once the container has passed its Last Free Day (LFD), you will receive Demurrage Fees. Usually, these fees must be paid before the Port will release your cargo. To avoid such fees, it is essential to entrust a shipping company that specializes in transport logistics and freight shipping.
• From the Port, your driver will deliver your goods to the delivery location. If the final destination of your cargo is more than 300 miles away, your goods will be transported to a trans-loading facility near the Destination Port. Once your goods are delivered to a local warehouse or trans-loading facility, the driver will return the container to the Port of pickup. This is a requirement when shipping freight.
• If you require your goods to be transported from the trans-loading facility, we will arrange for them to be picked up and transported to their final destination.
