How does the Illinois overlength law work?
Loads greater than 14′ 6″ wide, 15′ 00″ high, and 145′ long can be loaded between 12 hours before sunrise and 12 hours after sunset, Monday through Friday. Loads are also permitted from 12 hours before sunrise until noon on Saturday. Sundays are prohibited for permit movements.
How does Illinois define oversize loads?
The “Oversize Load” sign is required for loads over 10 feet wide, 14 feet 6 inches high, and 75 feet long. Permit loads oversize/overweight must be equipped with a tractor light that oscillates, rotates or flashes in amber.
Does Illinois have a maximum length for trucks and trailers?
A truck tractor semitrailer-trailer or a truck tractor semitrailer-semitrailer may not exceed 60 feet in overall dimension. A semitrailer longer than 48 feet, in combination with a truck tractor, may not exceed 42 feet 6 inches between the kingpin and the center axle.
