How do you handle EV bus transport?

Shipping an electric bus is different from moving other kinds of buses. These vehicles often have larger battery systems and can be quite sensitive. Electric buses have special handling needs, especially because of the batteries and height.

In order to decide the best type of trailer to use for electric bus hauling practices, we factor in the dimension and weight of the electric bus, whether or not the bus is operable or inoperable and where the battery is placed in your electric vehicle.

Can you transport an electric bus that isn’t drivable?

Yes, your electric bus doesn’t need to be charged or operable. We use special trailers, depending on if the bus is drivable. For those that aren’t able to be driven, we use winch-equipped trailers, custom ramps, or crane service to safely load and secure your electric bus for transport.

What Trailers do you use for Electric Bus shipping?

When it comes to the type of trailer we’ll use to move your electric bus, we choose from several trailer types based on the electric buses weight, height and size:

• Flatbed Trailers: these trailers hold up to 48,000lb. Best for standard size electric minibuses. Flatbed trailers are ideal for electric buses that meet standard height and width restrictions. They are commonly used for drivable, operable units.
  Step-Deck Trailers or a Drop Deck: this trailer holds approximately 46,000 to 48,000 lbs. They’re best for taller electric buses that go over standard height limits. Step-deck trailers allow for taller EV buses to be transported without requiring special height permits in most cases.
• Lowboy Trailers: can hold heavy hauling equipment that ranges from 40,000 to 80,000 lbs. These trailers are best for oversized or heavier electric buses.
• RGN trailer, or Removable Gooseneck trailer: these are designed for hauling heavy buses that can’t be driven onto a standard trailer. The front of the RGN trailer detaches, allowing the heavy electric buses to be loaded from the ground, also especially useful for buses that don’t run or are too tall for traditional flatbeds.

How Cheap is the cost of Bus hauling?

When you’re getting a quote to move an electric bus, there are several major factors that will influence the total cost. Knowing these ahead of time helps us give you an accurate quote.

• Dimensions & Weight: The length, width, height, and total weight of the bus are important. Larger, heavier buses often need specialty trailers (like lowboy, RGN, or step‑deck) and possibly oversize permits – this will all affect the price.
• Height is especially important: if your bus exceeds a certain height limit. For example, your electric bus won’t clear overpasses or bridges, that increases cost.
  If the bus doesn’t run, loading it safely requires different equipment which will add to the cost.
• Route & Distance: Shipping across many states or international borders costs more than short, local hauls.
• Permits and Insurance: If your electric bus is oversized in width, height, or weight, you’ll likely need special permits.
• Condition & Operability: An inoperable bus will need special equipment, since it doesn’t drive, we’ll need to use extra equipment and labor.
