In 1921, New Barbadoes Township became known as Hackensack, New Jersey. Today, Hackensack is the county seat of Bergen County and has over 43,000 residents. This suburban city, just 12 miles from Midtown Manhattan, is full of history. During part the American Revolution, George Washington used Hackensack as his headquarters. And, Hackensack’s “Church on the Green,” which was built in 1696, is the oldest church in the county and second oldest in the state. Interstate 80 and State Route 4 both pass through the city, providing the quickest routes into New York.
