What Our Clients Say
Classic car transport
Classic cars are not just transportation. They are years of restoration work, money spent on parts that no longer get made, and in many cases a connection to something personal. Shipping one requires a carrier that understands what is at stake before the truck ever pulls up.
We Will Transport It has been moving classic and antique vehicles for over 25 years. We know the questions to ask before loading, the conditions to watch for during transport, and how to document everything at pickup and delivery so there are no disputes when the car arrives.
Open vs. Enclosed Transport for Classic Cars
Enclosed transport is the right call for most classic and antique vehicles. Here is what the difference actually means.
Open transport puts your vehicle on an exposed multi-car carrier. It is the standard method for everyday vehicles and works fine for them. For a restored classic with a fresh paint job, polished chrome, or a rebuilt engine bay, road debris, weather, and road grime over several hundred miles are real risks.
Enclosed transport puts your car inside a covered trailer, fully protected from the elements for the entire trip. It costs more than open, typically in the range of 30 to 40 percent, but for most classic car owners it is not a difficult call.
We offer both options. If your daily driver is also a classic and you are comfortable with open transport, we will do it. If you want enclosed, we set it up. Either way, we will be straight with you about what we would do.
Classic and Antique Cars We Ship
We regularly transport:
- Pre-war classics and antiques from the 1910s through 1930s
- Post-war American muscle from the 1950s through 1970s, including Mustangs, Camaros, Chevelles, GTOs, and Chargers
- Classic pickup trucks including Ford F-100, Chevy C10, and similar
- Restored station wagons and two-door hardtops
- Classic European imports including early Mercedes, Porsche 356, MG, Triumph, and Jaguar E-Type
- Barn finds and project cars that are not fully operational
- Show cars being transported to events such as Mecum, Barrett-Jackson, and regional concours events
- Estate vehicles being moved for sale or storage
If your vehicle has special handling requirements due to its condition, low clearance, or modifications, let us know upfront so the right equipment is arranged.
VINTAGE CAR TRANSPORT
Vintage cars do not move the same way a daily driver does. The loading matters. The route matters. Whether the trailer is enclosed or open matters. A 1938 Packard or a numbers-matching 1957 Thunderbird that took a decade to restore deserves more than a quick call to a general freight broker.
We Will Transport It has moved vintage vehicles across the country and internationally for over 25 years. We know what questions to ask before the truck shows up, how to document condition at pickup, and how to handle vehicles that are fragile, low to the ground, or not fully operational. If you bought a vintage car at auction across the country, need it at a show, or are relocating and do not want to put road miles on something irreplaceable, we will build the move around the car.
Classic car shipping
We Will Transport It has many years of experience in shipping classic vehicles. We have the know-how and the ability to transport any classic vehicle within the continental U.S. or Canada. Your vehicle is more than an investment.
For you, it is a labor of love and a work of art. Rest assured that we will take care of it for you. Because of the inherent value attached to classic vehicles, we at We Will Transport It suggest enclosed transport for shipping classic vehicles.
How Much Does It Cost to Ship a Classic Car?
Classic car shipping rates depend on several factors. There is no flat number that applies to every move.

What affects the price:
- Distance: Longer hauls cost more in total but less per mile. A cross-country move will run less per mile than a short regional trip.
- Transport type: Enclosed costs more than open, generally 30 to 40 percent.
- Vehicle condition: Inoperable vehicles that cannot drive onto a trailer require a winch or forklift at loading, which adds cost. Let us know the car’s condition when you call.
- Vehicle size: Longer wheelbases, tall roof lines, or vehicles with protruding fins or accessories may require specific trailer configurations.
- Pickup location: Rural pickups add time and sometimes cost compared to major metro areas.
- Timing and flexibility: Booking ahead and staying open on exact pickup dates typically brings the rate down. Rush moves and holiday windows cost more.
As a rough guide, enclosed classic car transport runs approximately $1.00 to $1.50 per mile for shorter hauls and lower on long-distance routes. Get a quote for your specific vehicle and route.
Preparing Your Classic Car for Transport
A little prep before pickup protects the car and protects you if anything needs to be documented.
- Wash the car so existing paint chips, scratches, or rust spots are clearly visible
- Photograph all four sides, the roof, and the undercarriage before the driver arrives
- Remove personal items from the interior
- Note any fluid leaks and let the driver know; some trailers will not accept vehicles with active drips without drip pans
- Leave about a quarter tank of fuel
- Disable aftermarket alarms or leave disarm instructions with the driver
- If the car has a fresh restoration with fragile paint or newly chrome-plated parts, mention this at booking so it is flagged for the driver
- Walk the car with the driver at pickup and confirm the condition report before signing
Shipping an Inoperable or Non-Running Classic
Barn finds, project cars, and vehicles mid-restoration that cannot drive onto a trailer are a common request. We can handle them.
A non-running vehicle requires either a forklift or a winch to load onto the trailer. There is an added cost for this, and we need to know upfront so the right equipment is dispatched. If the car has no brakes or steering, that also affects how it can be positioned on the trailer.
Call us with the details and we will work out what is needed before the truck shows up.
International Classic Car Shipping
We handle international transport for classic and antique vehicles, including moves to Canada, Europe, Australia, and other destinations. International moves involve port delivery, customs documentation, and coordinating with overseas receiving agents, so lead time matters more than on domestic routes.
Costs vary significantly by destination, vehicle size, and shipping method (container versus roll-on/roll-off). Call us for a quote on international moves rather than relying on general estimates.
