Hauling Every Type of Boat in New York

Our boat transport services move sailboats, motorboats, pontoons, and much more. Not every boat rides the same way, so the plan changes with each hull. Yacht transport takes a heavier trailer than jet ski shipping. Motorboat transport and sailboat shipping require a slow, careful hand. Plenty of owners book us for pontoon boat hauling, bass boat transport, center console boat shipping, and bowrider hauling. New York boat shipping goes smoothly when specialists handle the details.

Large loads? Our specialists handle them all. Large yacht transport and hauling oversized vessels are moved by our licensed and insured drivers. Moving oversized yachts requires the right equipment, and we have it. We Will Transport It also handles cabin cruiser hauling, and houseboat shipping. Fishing boat transport gets the same attention as the large loads. We handle boat transportation for all types of vessels.

New York Boat Transport for Local or Long-Distance

Boat moves can be close to home, while others go cross-country. Our local boat transport keeps short trips cheap and simple. Long-distance boat hauling crosses state lines when a boat has to go to another state. As a nationwide boat transport company, we connect coasts, lakes, and rivers on a single route. State-to-state boat transport gets planned ahead of time, so nothing surprises our drivers.

International boat shipping and overseas boat transport reach ports worldwide. For international yacht transport, our overseas boat hauling solutions ensure communication 24/7. Owners who prefer port-to-port moves get a clear transportation plan before anything happens. Roll-on/roll-off transport lets large vessels drive on board and safely move with no issues.

New York Overland Boat Hauling Costs

New York boat transport costs start at $2.00 to $5.00 per mile. Our boat shipping rates change based on the distance, weight, beam width, and trailer requirements. Long-distance boat transport lowers the per-mile cost. A wide hull or an odd shape can increase the price, and our specialists explain every charge before anything gets booked. There are no hidden fees at the end. Call (877) 330-0051 for a New York boat transport quote today.

    Boat Shippers Across New York

New York boat hauling services operate in busy harbors and quiet spots throughout the state. In western New York, boats in Buffalo and Niagara Falls are picked up near Lake Erie. Cities like Rochester, Oswego, and Watertown are close to Lake Ontario, so boat transport there is often. Syracuse, Utica, and Binghamton keep things moving through the middle of the state all season long. Over in the capital region, Albany, Schenectady, Troy, and Saratoga Springs all have regular pickups too. Great Lakes boat transport connects these northern port cities along a single route.

The southern part of the state is just as busy. New York City marinas need carefully planned routes that go through the harbor to get boats in and out safely. Yonkers, White Plains, and New Rochelle are only a short distance north of the city. Hudson River boat hauling moves boats past Poughkeepsie and Kingston heading south. Long Island boat transport handles smooth trips out to towns like Montauk and Sag Harbor on the East End. Boat hauling to New York’s inland lakes handles the entire state, from Lake George to the Finger Lakes.

New York Permits for Hauling a Boat on the Road

When a boat is loaded onto a truck or trailer, road transport rules must be followed. Large boats are usually considered oversized loads.

    • NY DOT Oversize/Overweight Permit: Vehicles that exceed state weight limits need this permit from the New York State Department of Transportation before traveling on public roads.
    • Special Hauling Permit: Very heavy, oversized, or unusually shaped loads require this permit, especially for travel on the New York State Thruway.
    • NYC Daily Over-Dimensional Permit: Any truck exceeding New York City size or weight limits must have a Daily Over-Dimensional Permit from the NYC Department of Transportation before entering city limits.
    • Travel Time Rules: Oversized loads may travel only from half an hour before sunrise to half an hour after sunset, Monday through Friday.
    • Oversize Load Markings: Red or orange flags measuring 18 inches must go at the four corners and all extremities of the load. A rotating amber light is also required on all oversize loads.

Our specialists check with the NY DMV, the NY State Department of Transportation, or the NYC DOT to confirm exactly which permits apply before going on the roads.

The Proper Equipment for Moving a Boat in New York

Our specialized overland boat haulers have the right equipment for every type of vessel. Overland hauling goes smoothly when the trailer fits the hull. Bunk trailers cradle the boat and spread its weight so nothing can slide. Some owners already have a trailer, so we offer power-only transport options and driveaway services.

Boat trailer transport handles pickups at homes, ramps, and clubs. A tricky launch might require a boat ramp, boat stands, a crane, or a travel lift. With specialized equipment, our drivers safely relocate vessels of all sizes without any issues.

    New York Boat Transport Regulations

Moving a boat in New York means following the rules that the state issues.

    Key Regulations:

    • As of January 1, 2025, all operators of motorized vessels must carry a valid New York State-approved boating safety certificate. This rule, known as Brianna’s Law,  handles every single motorized boat operator regardless of age.
    • The required boating safety course is eight hours long. Skipping it can lead to fines between $100 to $250, and insurance companies can refuse to cover boating incidents if the operator lacks the proper certification.
    • All power-driven vessels operating in New York state waters must be registered with the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles and display validation decals. Registration stays valid for three years starting from the month it was issued.
    • The original certificate of registration must remain on board the vessel at all times. When a boat gets sold, the certificate or title must be signed over to the new owner right away.
    • Every person aboard must have a U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jacket in good condition that fits them properly and stays within easy reach.
    • Children 12 and under must wear a Coast Guard-approved life jacket while the boat is moving on any vessel under 65 feet, unless the child is inside a fully enclosed cabin.
    • Adults must wear a life jacket when boating between November 1st and May 1st on boats under 21 feet, when being towed behind a vessel, or when operating a personal watercraft.
    • Operating a vessel while impaired by alcohol or drugs is illegal. A blood alcohol level of 0.08% or higher puts an operator in violation of state law. Operators under 21 caught drinking while driving a vessel face suspension or loss of operating privileges.
    • Anyone operating a personal watercraft must be at least 14 years old and hold a Boating Safety Certificate. Kids between 10 and 13 can only operate a boat when an adult 18 or older with a valid certificate is riding along with them.
    • Personal watercraft can only be operated between sunrise and sunset. Adding an aftermarket light kit to the vessel does not make nighttime operation legal under state law.
    • A boat accident report must be filed with the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation within 5 days if someone needs medical treatment beyond basic first aid, if a person dies or goes missing, or if property damage tops $1,000.
    • Dumping sewage or waste into New York waterways is prohibited on all vessels. Boaters must use proper disposal facilities at marinas to stay in compliance.

Following these rules protects everyone on the water and helps avoid serious fines or legal consequences. The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation enforces these regulations across all state waterways.

    New York’s Major Boat Routes

New York is on one of the most active waterways in the nation. Rivers, bays, and ocean inlets go through the city in every direction. Today, millions of riders depend on ferry and water transport to get around.

Here are all the major routes:

    • Staten Island Ferry connects Whitehall Street in Lower Manhattan to St. George Terminal in Staten Island. It runs around the clock, takes about 25 minutes, and costs nothing to ride. It also passes directly in front of the Statue of Liberty.
    • NYC Ferry operates five separate lines through NYCEDC. The East River Line, South Brooklyn Line, Astoria Line, Rockaway Line, and St. George Line all connect neighborhoods that the subway does not reach well.
    • NY Waterway Ferry brings commuters from New Jersey into Midtown Manhattan. It picks up riders in Weehawken, Hoboken, and Edgewater and drops them off at several West Side piers.
    • Port Imperial Ferry runs between Weehawken, New Jersey, and West 38th Street in Midtown. Many riders transfer to it after taking NJ Transit rail lines into town.
    • Rockaway Ferry Line connects Downtown Manhattan to Far Rockaway in Queens. It runs seasonally and provides riders with a water route to the beach neighborhoods along Jamaica Bay.
    • Governors Island Ferry carries visitors from both Lower Manhattan and Brooklyn to Governors Island during the warm months. It operates mainly on weekends and select weekdays from late spring through fall.
    • East River Ferry (Astoria Line) links Astoria in Queens through Midtown East and into the Financial District. It serves as an alternative for commuters who find the N and W trains too crowded.
    • Hudson River Day Line boats travel north from Manhattan through the Hudson Valley, stopping at places like Poughkeepsie and Kingston. These run as excursions and sightseeing trips rather than daily transit.

Together, these routes form a water transit network that handles everything from rush-hour commutes to weekend island trips across the harbor.
